Overview

Azure Cosmos DB is Microsoft's globally-distributed multi-model NoSQL database. The Automize Cosmos DB connector covers databases, containers (collections), document CRUD, queries, and stored procedures via the Core (SQL) API.

  • Regions: Multi-region by default. Each account can span multiple Azure regions with sub-second replication.
  • Plans: Pay-per-RU/s (request units) or Serverless. APIs: Core (SQL), MongoDB, Cassandra, Gremlin, Table. Connector targets Core SQL API.

Setting up the connection

Auth type: Bearer Token.

  1. Azure Portal → Cosmos DB account → Keys → copy Primary Key OR use Entra ID for RBAC.
  2. For bearer auth, app registration → grant Cosmos DB Data Contributor on the account.
  3. In Automize → Settings → Connectors → Azure Cosmos DB. Paste endpoint + token.

Rate limits

RU-based throttling per container. 429 if you exceed provisioned RU/s – connector backs off + retries.

FAQ

Why are my queries slow?
Cross-partition scans cost more RUs + slower. Always pass partition_key when known. Composite indexes for multi-field queries.
RU/s provisioning?
Minimum 400 RU/s per container. Autoscale option scales up to your max. Monitor + tune via Azure Portal.
