Make a document from another document, following a recipe learned from an example pair of documents.

Add it to a process

In the process designer, open the Add step tab. Find Make a document from another document (recipe) under Document Processing, or type its name in the search box, and drag it onto the canvas.

Fields

FieldRequiredWhat it does
Document to readYesThe PDF, Excel, CSV or Word file to make rows from.
RecipeYesMade from an example document and the output a person made from it (Excel, CSV, JSON, XML or text). Says, for each part of the output, where its value comes from.
Output fileNoWhere to write it (.xlsx, .csv, .json, .xml or .txt, as the recipe makes). To add rows to an Excel workbook an earlier step opened, leave blank.
SheetNoExcel only, and only when it isn't the recipe's own sheet: one recipe can then serve a sheet per store.
Answers to the recipe's questionsNoOne per line, as Heading: value. Only needed when the recipe asks for something the document doesn't hold.
OverwriteNoReplace the output file when it is already there (default: false)
VariableNoVariable to store the result in (default: recipe_output)

What it gives back

  • {recipe_output} – The file written, or the name of the Excel workbook the rows were added to
  • {recipe_output_rows} – How many rows were made
  • {recipe_output_report} – Where every cell came from (which rule, which document field and row, or a fixed value a person approved), the sheet and the rows written, and whether the document passed its own module's checks (documentCheck). Names and positions only, no values; it is not written into the output document
